Choosing Certified Humane® grass-fed beef supports family-owned farms that prioritize animal welfare and sustainability. These farms often face stiff competition from large-scale, industrial farms that prioritize profit over animal welfare and environmental sustainability. It’s not the easy way, and many of our ranchers are striving to make this a priority. Learn about how our ranchers, like CM Livestock, are prioritizing animal welfare.

Not all grass-fed beef is created equal, and the Certified Humane® certification plays an important role in ensuring that the animals are treated humanely and sustainably.

The Certified Humane® certification is a third-party certification program that applies its Animal Care Standards for the humane treatment of farm animals. To achieve Certified Humane® certification, farms and businesses in the food supply chain must meet strict criteria, including providing ample space and access to clean water and food, avoiding the use of antibiotics and growth hormones in animal feed, and allowing animals to engage in natural behaviors.

Requiring that animals have access to pasture and are allowed to graze freely ensures that the animals are able to engage in their natural behaviors and consume the nutrient-rich grasses that are essential for their health. Natural movement and space to roam also reduces the risk of illness due to confinement.

Overall, choosing Certified Humane® grass-fed beef is an important way for consumers to ensure that they are making ethical and sustainable choices when it comes to their meat consumption.
